A Life of Grace

I’m impressed at how many of you keep coming by on a regular basis to check in on me, despite the terrible job I’ve been doing posting. Thanks. It makes me feel like I’m not disappearing.

I feel the days slipping by and I’m coming to realize that there is just going to be way too much to catch up on once I’m back online. I’ll just have to jump into the events of the day and not try to catalogue everything that’s happened in the past few weeks.

In short, life is great. My family is a continual blessing to me, causing me to grapple with reality (which I avoid in my natural state) and showing me my need for an ongoing prayer life. It’s sort of healthy to be always faced with one’s short comings. I get so self assured of my own togetherness sometimes that I need the dose of weakness that my woken-up at 4 am self reveals.

I’m reading this and kind of thinking that I’m coming across as far more spiritual and organized than I really am. What is it about writing on here that makes me want to seem so cool? Honestly, I have issues. I need to learn a lot. I need to start serving my family more and stop trying to make them serve me. It’s frustrating for all of us and I tend to feel resentful when I don’t think I’m being treated like enough of a princess. I also think I alienate people by constantly trying to be right and have all of the answers instead of being a patient listener. Yikes.

Speaking of my lame side, is anyone else excited about the season finale of Lost tonight?

Well, this little hiccup is turning into a major one! I have so many great pictures just sitting on my camera, so many full days of sunshine and family time, and still no internet connection. It should be a simple thing to fix, but, like so many of the little choices in life, is snowballing into a more complicated mess. It shouldn’t be too long before our techno situation is pieced back together and updated… and then I can tell you all about our wonderful trip to Oregon, our sleepless nights with Theo, our latest attempts at creating the Sullivan Family Life Plan. It includes menue planning, budgeting, calendar organizing, church rhythm sorting, and other ambitious things and fits in with my new year’s goal of living a more intentional life.

And, times up.

Well, I have a couple hundred pictures to upload from our trip and lots of interesting things rambling around in my head, but for some reason the internet isn’t working for us right now. I’m taking a moment to use my sister’s computer (hi Faith) to post.

I’ll be back to my interweb world soon with lots of clever stuff!

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh

That’s the sound of us getting home this afternoon from our week and a half of vacationing in Oregon. Kids are napping…we are unpacking…it’s good to be home.

More to come soon.

It’s over! I’m heaving a sigh of relief and relishing in disbelief that I have no more urgent deadlines looming over me. Well, actually, we need to finish financing the house and pack for vacation to Oregon in the morning, but after the insanely busy month I’ve had, that all sounds easy. The craft fair was wonderful. Lots of interesting people in a cool little space downtown and I even sold a handful of toys. I made the bold (and foolish) choice to bring little Theo along for the 6 hour extravaganza, and despite his unflappable, happy go lucky vibe, he was more work than I wanted to be dealing with at the time and refused to take a nap in the carrier. So, to the rescue came my sister and my mother to entertain him while Pat made the drive to come pick him up for a much needed late nap.

Of course, late naps make for late bedtimes, which leads to our other big event of the day: Titus and Theo are now sharing a room! How is it possible that they are so old? After 3 and a half weeks of having Theo’s crib in our room and having to be on eggshells for fear of waking him I was ready to make a change. He did great, actually. He had the best night of sleep he’s had since the move, and now he and his brother are napping simultaneously. Sweetness.

Here are some other shots from yesterday, including my good friend and doula with Theo’s birth, Jessica. She makes very cool stuff: nursing shawls, baby hats, blankets, embroidered rock tank tops for little kids, pin-up girl coasters, and funky ties for boys. I made my labels last minute on Saturday morning and was able to use all my old rubber stamp carving gear to come up with a cool design. I love how it turned out!

Happy Birthday, Mom

Well, after a bit of a scramble to find a way to get my sisters, our kids, and our mom all out to a tea shop for her birthday, we settled on staying in instead to celebrate. Crepes, tea, heart shaped sandwiches, and of course, a kids table to try to contain the boisterous mayhem of our 6 kids. It didn’t work for too long, but it was lovely anyways. Happy birthday, Grandma Hope!

Come One, Come Two

Well, after a few nice hours of down time and only having one little boy with me, I’m nearly ready for the Craft Fair. I can’t believe I’ve done things so down to the wire (actually, that’s not hard to believe, it’s pretty typical for me) considering that I’ve known about this thing for so long! In my defense, nearly three quarters of the animals that I made ended up not being as nice or high quality as I wanted, so I had to scrap them and cram last minute for replacements. I’m so happy that I did, though, because I like the revised versions a lot better. I’ll be sure to snap a picture of my completed pile before the fair so I can show off my handiwork before it all (maybe) disappears.

Tonight is also my friend Kenneth’s birthday party, which has, apparently, turned into one big neighborhood fest featuring us and Andrew McNeely making music. Aaron and I have been working on a new song (which is sooooo different and good) plus I’ve been writing some keys stuff which we’ll be debuting. I’m not going to stick the address on here, but all are welcome to come along and see us play, so just let me know if you want to come.

Theo has had to horrid nights of sleep, so expect me to look rather stoned tonight as I’ll have my sleepy face on.
